Do all of the Uppers work with all of the Bottoms?
At this time (Summer/Fall 2016,) all of the UPPERS work with any of the Wedge BOTTOMS. Future collections will offer you even more Uppers and Bottoms (HEELS!) to choose from and to use with your current Uppers. We will also be launching a line of FLATS. The UPPERS that go with our line of flats will not work with the UPPERS that work with our WEDGES and our HEELS.
Will getting the magnets wet affect their hold?
No, getting the magnets wet will not affect their magnetism.
I can’t figure out how to put the Uppers on my Bottoms!
Check out the labels on the inside lining of the Uppers. They will say: L Outside or R Outside. These correspond with the left and right shoes and will remind you which way to orient the Upper before lining it up with the magnets. “Outside” refers to the outside of your foot. Also, for a visual guide to removing and attaching the Uppers, please go to Catperkins.com/How-It-Works.
Are there other clues on how to put the Uppers on the Bottoms?
Yes. If you have a shoe with buckles, the buckles always go on the outside of the foot. Same with collar studs.
Sometimes it feels hard to get the Uppers off the lowers. What am I doing wrong?
It’s tempting to pull UP on the Upper to take it off the Shoe Bottom, but this is NOT the correct way to remove the Uppers from the Bottoms. It’s much better to grasp the inside of the Upper at the back rivet and pull it out gently, but firmly – one fastener at a time – to the SIDE. Check out our “HOW IT WORKS” video on our website (www.catperkins.com/How-It-Works)
What happens if the rivets pop-out when I try on my shoes?
Unfortunately, no shoe fits every foot. We have not yet produced a wide version of our shoes, so, sadly, if you have wide feet, these shoes probably won't fit you. If the rivets pop out when you try them on and the length of the shoe seems correct, these shoes are just too narrow for you. Please return the shoes for a full refund.
The shoe with the Upper that I want is out of stock in my size. I can’t live without it. What should I do?
First, if a shoe is out of stock in your size, see if the Upper you like is available in your size. If it is, then choose another shoe that you love and order your Upper with a different full shoe you like. Win. Win. If you still can’t find what you want, put the shoe or Upper on your wishlist and we’ll notify you when it’s back in stock.
Can I wear my shoes to the beach?
Please do! Just be careful about taking the Uppers off the Bottoms when you’re in the sand. Sand could clog (and scratch) the magnetic channels and interfere with the way that the Upper attaches to your Bottom. If this happens, gently take a Q-tip and wipe the channel clean.
I’m having trouble getting my Upper onto my Shoe Bottom. What’s happening? You may be trying to put the Upper on backwards. Or you could be trying to attach a right Upper to a Left Shoe Bottom.
Check out the labels on the inside lining of the Uppers. They will say: L Outside or R Outside. These correspond with the left and right shoes and will remind you which way to orient the Upper before lining it up with the magnets. “Outside” refers to the outside of your foot.
Apologies in advance if you have the Rainey Upper. This is basically like a Rubik’s Cube. Still, take a deep breath and follow directions above!
My Upper still isn’t attaching to the Shoe Bottom easily! What should I do?
If the issue is that the Uppers are not attaching, it is possible that a small piece of something (a paperclip, a staple?) got lodged in the channel if you have been carrying your Bottoms without Uppers attached. This is nothing that you can’t fix with a pair of needle-nose tweezers!
What you don’t want to do is try to jam the Uppers into the Shoe Bottoms. Magnets are fragile and can crack if you’re too rough.
Finally, check to make sure that you’re not putting the wrong Upper on the wrong Bottom.
Will the magnetic channels damage my computer/ phone/ pacemaker?
We have been carrying these shoes around for years (literally) without ever experiencing any negative interaction with our electronic devices. Why? Because the magnetic channels are sunken into the midsole of the shoe and can’t touch your devices. There are no magnets in the Uppers.
If you have a pacemaker or defibrillator, please be warned that, like a cell phone or a drill, you should keep devices with magnetic fields more that 12” from your pacemaker.

Why are these shoes so comfortable?
Because we have a dirty little secret: underneath all that beautiful leather is a 5mm athletic, crush-resistant foot bed that molds to the feet and cushions all of the pressure points of the foot. You feel like you’re walking on marshmallows, don’t you?
We also paid particular attention to the pitch of your shoes, so that 4 ½ inch heel will feel like a 2 ½ inch heel. We’re girls that love fashion and want to wear heels, without being crippled by foot pain. You’re welcome.
